We're upgrading our Speed Reading software. It's an Adobe AIR app, created in Flex. It has clean, logical code, and we expect the new coder to follow the same principles.
Currently, the software has this:
- welcome screen
- menu interface
- 6 mini-applications
The purpose of the apps is to make it easier for people to read text very quickly. The apps themselves don't really need to be changed much - just a few tweaks here and there. The real changes are going to happen AROUND the apps - adding in a new menu interface, new animations, etc. See the attached screenshots to see my imagined end-result. (I'll do all of the graphics and colours myself - you just have to work on the layout, the animations, and the functionality.)
Also, this update is going to add CONTINUITY to the program. As it is now, the program doesn't remember anything from one day to the next. The new version needs to remember the user's settings, preferences, etc., and track their "progress" as they improve their reading ability (and change the settings) over time. Most of that can be handled by writing the important info to a text file, and loading it up later on.
Overall, it's just a lot of little things that need to be added in. There's no individual part that I expect to be very difficult or time-consuming, but given the number of new features and changes, it could take a while to finish.
If any one thing does turn out to be a huge time-taker, then we'll probably just skip it, in interest of completing the project sooner. I'm flexible on almost every feature in the software, so if you've got a suggestion for how to make it easier, or how to make it better, then I'll most likely go along with your idea.
As I've said before, we're going to be working with the files from the previous version of the software. So when we start, I'll send you the latest version of the Flex project, and you can work on it from there.
